Problems on UMPC running Windows 7 - Key Repeats, etc. when zoom (fit width) used |

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | I really want to love this software but it is just not working for me at all. I'm having several fatal problems. I try to use the UMPC_num keyboard on my Viliv S10 Blade (2 GHz Atom). Problems: - Lots of double or triple presses. 10-20% of the time it inserts the same key many times. I seem to have traced this down to the use of "fit width" in the zoom option. None of the UMPC keyboards are the right size, so I used "fit width" with the UMPC_num keyboard. When I use the same keyboard without fit width, no double presses. - When I hit SHIFT (which should presumably be just a temporary shift) it permanently locks on shift in such a way that hitting it again or hitting anything else won't get out of shift mode. I literally have to press the physical shift key to clear it. I have tried changing the priority to software's process priority to "high", thinking maybe it was just not getting enough CPU. No difference. I tried turning off everything like auto-complete (which I've never actually seen come up, btw, not sure if it's broken or this is somehow related). I disabled the option about repeated keys, no difference. Using the keyboard at its "native" size fixes it, but I can't do that. I need one 1366 wide. The SHIFT issue is a real problem, and it just never works with the UMPC_num keyboard at least. Please help! I want to like and buy your software. Ben

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | Damn. I just spent 45 minutes writing a php script to translate the coordinates in the UMPC_num keyboard which was 1024 wide to what I needed at 1366, since without fit width it seemed to work, but the new adjusted coordinate keyboard still has typos every few letters. and of course shift still doesn't ever disable. So please help, I've done everything I know to do. Ben

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | Thanks for pointing out that feature. Please see my original post, though, I am still having two fatal problems: - Lots of double or triple presses. 10-20% of the time it inserts the same key many times. (I disabled the repeated key press, also tried changing task priority, it seems the problem doesn't occur when the keyboard is <= 1024 wide, can't explain why this would be.) - When I hit SHIFT (which should presumably be just a temporary shift) it permanently locks on shift in such a way that hitting it again or hitting anything else won't get out of shift mode. I literally have to press the physical shift key to clear it. (see original post for details) Ben

Also try to set in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ComfortSoftware\CKeyboard option "KeyboardTouchDelay" to 500 or 700. Have a nice day

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | Thanks, that's mostly fixed the bogus duplicate problem. I still get some but presumably only when CPU is loaded or something. I still can't use this normally, though because of the SHIFT issue I mentioned. I press SHIFT (mapped to 160 as it should be) and it then everything for the rest of the time until I cancel the keyboard and manually clear it by physically hitting shift. There seems no way to cancel the shift. Any idea why this would be? And how to fix it?

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | I checked on the options, that's how it's set up. Also, no other on screen keyboard or hotkey manager. AutoHotKey is installed, but none of its processes are running. I killed off other processes included with the PC in case they were intercepting keys, but same result, SHIFT is never turned off (presumably key up is never sent). It's Windows 7 and it's a tablet PC so the built-in Windows 7 on screen keyboard is enabled, but not activated (not visible) (but it has processes like TabTip.exe, etc. running in the background). ![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | Huh, it's all working now, after a reboot. The caps issue suddenly began behaving as it should. Maybe one of the setting changes you asked me to make required the keyboard software be restarted? Just to give you a clue for debugging... Even though I had the setting in place for auto complete and for showing the shifted keys (you know, showing " instead of ') when you hit shift, neither of these features were working until now, either. Not sure how it could be related, but I don't know of any changes I made between restarts. Ben

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | I may have figured out why the change you suggested may not have fixed things until the software was restarted (on reboot). I hit "save" instead of "ok" in the settings dialog (since I wanted to try the setting and not need to re-open the options dialog), but perhaps the behavior of save is to save the option in registry without actually using the new setting. ![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | I FOUND THE REPRODUCIBLE BUG! The SHIFT and Auto Complete and the change of keys all break about 5 seconds after Windows 7 comes out from suspend/hibernate! Everything works fine, I suspend/hibernate, and when I resume everything still works for about 5 seconds then it stops working and I am forced to restart the Comfort Keys Pro for it to work again. ![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | I did buy Comfort Keys Pro a few days ago, but the behavior is the exact same. I must exit and restart your software after every resume from hibernation or suspend, otherwise shift doesn't work properly, auto complete doesn't work at all, etc. I will write a little program to kill and restart your software periodically. Also, I seem to have discovered that auto-complete pops up whenever I hit shift+space at the same time. Is there some way to disable this? It is very annoying because 90% of the time when I type a single capital letter and a space, like "I " or "A " I apparently hit space while not yet done shifting (or there is a delay on it realizing shift has been released). So it is popping up the autocomplete at lots of inappropriate times. I find no obvious option in the settings or registry for this. Ben

![]() Registrato il: Sat Jun 05 2010, 02:28PM messaggi: 10 | Ah, found out how to disable SHIFT + SPACE! For anyone who wants to know, press WIN + CAPS to get to the "Keyboard Shortcuts Settings" screen where you will need to delete the current entry for SHIFT + SPACE and then you can add it back with another shortcut, I used WIN + SPACE instead.
